SNSD And 2PM Have Been Replaced As Water Park Models

What makes you go to a water park? Is it for the water rides guaranteed to cool you down on a hot summer day, or because the advertisements are just so enticing? Well it seems the people of Korea would prefer their ads be a little less enticing. Idol groups Girls’ Generation, 2PM, Miss A, T-ARA, Secret, and F(x) have all been replaced with more “friendly” types. In other words, water parks like Caribbean Bay think they’ll get a better response with someone who reflects normal everyday people, instead of using Idols who are super gorgeous and envied.

I don’t know about you but I’m sure gonna miss those Caribbean Bay ads!

New K-Pop Girl Group The Gloss To Debut With First Non-Asian Member

the gloss2

For the first time ever a K-pop group is going to debut with a member not of Asian decent. This new group is called The Gloss (so ’80s right?!) and will be made up of two Korean members, 1 Korean-American member (who oddly enough looks like my Korean teacher), and for the first time a European from France named Olivia. MGMC, the entertainment company behind the group scouted each girl through global auditions held in Korea, Europe, and America.

The Gloss

Currently in K-pop there are non-Korean members like Amber and Victoria of F(x), Nichkhun of 2PM, and many of EXO’s members just to name a few. Also there’s Brad Moore, the drummer of Busker Busker who is also of non-Asian decent; but he doesn’t really qualify as the first because Busker Busker is an Indie band not a K-pop group.

So see! Even if you’re not Asian you can become a K-pop Idol, so make sure to go to all those auditions regardless of your background!

The headline was not a joke at all! Vogue dropped the boys of 2PM off at a fisherman’s wharf for their latest spread (not really!), which finds the boys toying with ropes and fishing hooks and even actual fish. There’s plenty of pics — including individual shots of every member — for you to feast your hungry eyes on!

[News] miss A Suzy Leads the Way for Idol Artists, 'Singer to Actor'

[News] miss A Suzy Leads the Way for Idol Artists, 'Singer to Actor'

The recent trend in idol artists' movement into the film industry looks to be in for a long haul. Why? K-pop idols can kill two birds with one stone: advertisement and ticket sales. In addition, foreign investment is readily available due to their enormous popularity overseas.

"Our Heaven" is the first idol-led film of the year. FTISLAND's Lee Hong Ki plays the main character. Also, 2PM's Junho's "The Watchers" and Big Bang's T.O.P's "Classmate" are coming soon. Girls' Generation's Yuri was recently cast for "No Blessing."

The trend from last year's hot streak of idol-led movies is sailing along. In 2012, miss A's Suzy, JYJ's Jaejoong, 2AM's Seulong, U-KISS Dong Ho and ZE:A's Dong Joon hit the big screens.

Before we delve into the forecast of this year's upcoming film, let us review the track records of last year's performances by various idols-turned-actors.

Seulong's "26 Years" recorded 2.9 million in attendance, Dong Ho's 'Don't Cry Mommy' 970,000, Dong Joon's 'Employee' 1.1 million, JYJ Jaejoong's 'Jackal' 210,000 and Suzy's 'Architecture 101' the highest 4.1 million.

The critics' reviews were every bit as various as their performances in the Box Office. Suzy's flawless in-character acting of a college freshman in 'Architecture 101' catapulted her acting career to a shrine reserved for mainstream movie stars. Seulong and Dong Joon got the nod as promising actors. JYJ Jaejoong showed a different side of him as a comical character, while Dong Ho became a hot issue with unnatural acting skills.

Due to the inexperience of idol artists in film, many of their first roles are not too different from their real-life persona like musicians and idols. That way, the pressure is relieved for the idols and the fans are less repulsive to the idols-turned-actors.

But it would not be right to downplay their bravery in jumping into the film industry just because they have chosen characters that are not entirely different from their own lives. Although they may be similar on the surface, the intricacies played out by the idols were quite novel and enlightening, to say the least. JYJ Jaejoong described the pain of dealing with paparazzis and diehard fans who intrude his home as well as an inappropriate relationship with an older sponsor behind closed doors.

There has been a great amount of criticism at idols-turned-actors for their unprepared transition into acting. But times have changed and we do not see as much ill-advised casting that result in disasters as we used to. Clearly, the idols who have decided to venture into the new territory of acting did so after much consideration and training. As long as the sincerity and the work ethic for acting go hand in hand, we will see more critically-acclaimed products from our idols-turned-actors.

[News] So Yi Hyun and 2PM’s Taecyeon Share a Kiss for “Who Are You” Drama Teaser

The cable channel tvN has released the teaser for its upcoming drama, ““Who Are You,” starring Ok Taecyeon (of 2PM) and So Yi Hyun.

“Who Are You” is a supernatural melodrama about Si On (played by So Yi Hyun), a girl who awoke from a six-year coma and has the ability to see ghosts and Gun Woo (played by Ok Taecyeon), who only believes in practical and tangible things that can be seen and touched. Both Si On and Gun Woo only have one thing in common–being a policeman. As they clash and argue about many things while trying to work together as a team, they grow to understand each other and later on, fall in love. The drama will also portray a mysterious love triangle as the ghost of Si On’s dead boyfriend, Hyung Joon (played by Kim Jae Wook), appear.

The teaser is simple and doesn’t reveal much about the drama plot itself. It simply portrays Ok Taecyeon and So Yi Hyun as lovers as they play with water and give each other a kiss at the end.

“Who Are You” will air its pilot on July 29 after “Dating Agency: Cyrano” comes to an end. Can’t wait!
