[News] 2PM's Nichkhun Appears On TV With His Mother To Once Again Respond To DUI Charges

Singer and rapper for the six-piece K-pop boy band 2PM, Nichkhun appeared with his mother on the Korean Broadcasting System show, "Happy Sunday Star Family Show Mamma Mia" on Sunday.

The appearance is one of a series of apologies Nichkhun has issued recently, in an apparent attempt to repair the damage to his reputation caused by last summer's DUI arrest.

"After the accident, for a month and a half I volunteered at facilities for disabled children," the 2PM star said.

"From that experience, I was able to take away a great lesson."

Nichkhun's mom also apologized on her son's behalf.

"As a mother, I feel sorry," she said, speaking in English.

"I would like to apologize [that Nichkhun] disappointed everyone. I just ask for the chance for him to come back to be a better person. Thank you so much for supporting him and hopefully you'll stay on supporting him."

The car accident that led to Nichkhun's DUI arrest took place in the early morning hours of July 24, following a late dinner with several of the artists on 2PM's record label JYP Entertainment.

"This morning, at about 2:30 a.m., Nichkhun drank about two glasses of beer while eating with JYP artists after concert practice, and then drove his way back home," a JYP representative told CJ E&M enewsWorld on the day of the star's arrest.

"On the way he was involved in a minor accident with a motorcycle in a side street near Hakdong Crossway."

Nichkhun, whose blood alcohol content was 0.056 percent, had his driver's license suspended because of the incident.

Earlier this month, the K-pop star opened up about how low he was feeling following the DUI arrest in his band's comeback special "2PM Returns."

"I thought that I wasn't even a person," Nichkhun said in the special, which aired on the South Korean network Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation on May 11.

Born in California and raised in Thailand, Nichkhun admitted feeling like he had squandered the admiration of 2PM's South Korean fans, after they had welcomed him as one of their own.

"Despite being a foreigner, the fans have accepted and loved me, and I have only betrayed and given them disappointment," he said.

"I wondered how much pain the fans were in because of me."
